Course Title : Certificate Course in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (Cert.DBT)
For whom (target group) : Dialectical Behaviour Therapy ( DBT) is a form of cognitive psychotherapy, designed to treat people with borderline personality disorders and mental health illnesses. DBT is often used to treat individuals who self-harm, abuse drugs or have suicidal tendencies. If you’re considering a career in counselling and psychotherapy, then you may want to consider taking this dialectical behaviour therapy training course.
The Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Certificate Course is an exploration of DBT theory and an introduction to the role of a DBT therapist. To begin with, you will explore the strategies of the DBT approach and DBT treatments, including interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness practices. You will then move onto how to use psychotherapy, and DBT counselling approaches for solving common psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety and OCD. Finally, you will study the benefits and limitations of the DBT approach. Throughout this course, you will develop essential problem-solving and clinical skills to help you with your career advancement to becoming a fully qualified DBT practitioner.
Requirements: Graduates in Public Health, Psychology or Social Work, Medical doctors, nurses and other healthcare practitioners or professionals who are holders of a Certificate / Diploma or HND in Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology or Counselling, and G.C.E. O/L or A/L’s and age not less than 21 years, and Fluency of the English language is essential.
Course Duration : 10 weeks (2.5 Months) – part time study
Contact Hours : 3 Hrs. per week of study time
Total No. of Classes : 10 class-contact sessions
Total No. of Contact Hours : 30 Hrs. of Lectures and discussion time
Class Times : Wednesdays: 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Mode of Final Examination and Assessment
The award of the IMH Certificate in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) will be contingent upon passing a 2-hour internally set unseen essay type final Examination paper to be answered on a closed book examination mode under invigilation at the Institute premises in Colombo-04.
Regular Group Course Fees : Rs. 39,000/- + Rs. 1,000/- for registration (Full course fee of Rs. 40,000/- to be paid by cash, credit card or cheque)
Individual Course Fees : Rs. 69,000/- + Rs. 1,000/- for registration (Could be paid by cash, credit card or cheque in two equal installments of Rs. 35,000/-)
Online / Distance Learning Course Fees : USD $100 (for foreign students and other professionals and healthcare workers living or working out of the Western Province in Sri Lanka will be considered on an individual case-by-case basis).
Next Course Start Date : Group Class: Wednesday 10th June 2020 (A maximum of 20 students will be enrolled for the group class)
